Have you ever visited a coffee shop you frequent and wondered if they changed baristas due to the declined coffee taste? In most cases, your coffee may taste terrible if there is build-up in the coffee maker.
The same case applies to your Verismo coffee maker. Not cleaning it regularly can make your morning cup of joe taste like a nasty hangover cure.
While cleaning the verismo coffee maker can seem like an uphill task, it is quite easy, especially if you do it regularly. You simply need to follow some steps daily, weekly, and monthly.
How to clean a Starbucks Verismo machine
A daily rinse will prevent any major build-up. A weekly clean-up will ensure your coffee maker does not run aground. A monthly clean-up will help prevent the coffee maker from altering the taste of your coffee.
On the other hand, a quarterly cleaning session will be an equivalent of a spring cleaning. It is perfect for maintaining the coffee maker.
Daily rinse
You can do this immediately after use before turning it off to remove coffee residue.

Weekly rinse
First, rinse the Verismo Coffee Maker as usual. Then remove the drip tray and the water tank and clean them. Use a wet cloth and a mild detergent as any strong smell may linger, and an abrasive will scratch the pieces.
Monthly clean-up
This is much more thorough than the weekly clean-up. Use the Urnex coffee and espresso cleaning products as they have been tailored to handle this job.
Quarterly spring cleaning
This is the perfect time to descale a verismo coffee maker. Invest in a good verismo descaling agent such as the Durgol Swiss Espresso Special Decalcifier.
You will need to put one bottle of Durgol and 12 oz of water in the reservoir and press the middle brew of the rinse button. Rinse it over and over until the water tank is empty, then do a final rinse with plain tap water. Then wipe down the entire coffee maker using a wet cloth.

How to clean Verismo with vinegar
You can clean your Verismo coffee maker using Vinegar. Add white vinegar and cool water into the reservoir and rinse the coffee maker. Then rinse again using tap water at least 3 or 4 times. Use 3 oz of vinegar to 20 oz of water.
What can you use instead of a descaling solution?
You can make your descaling solution using white vinegar, citric acid or lemon juice, hot water, and baking soda. The effervescence reaction should help to descale the coffee maker.

The solution is to ensure that your water tank is full when doing the rinse part after descaling for the coffee maker to register that the descaling process is complete.
