If it works properly, Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker will give you that perfect cup of coffee whenever you need it. The coffee maker is easy to use and produces a flavorful drink.

But recently, many users have complained about Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker’s start button not working. This can be quite inconvenient, especially if you are in a hurry.

The good news is that there are a couple of ways you can fix the coffee maker. You just have to understand what causes it not to start. This is where our troubleshooting guide comes into play.

Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee maker won’t start?

When Mr. Coffee Iced coffee maker is not starting or isn’t brewing, check if the cord is plugged correctly, the power switch is not turned on, or the power outlet has an issue. Once you confirm they are okay, apply these troubleshooting tips:

1. Check the power outlet

The start button may be fine, but there is a problem with the power supply. If the power switch is off, ensure it is turned on and has a stable power supply. You can check its power voltage by connecting another electrical device; if it does not turn on, the socket has an issue. Contact your electrician to diagnose the problem and fix it.

Alternatively, you should check the circuit breaker. Ensure that Mr. Coffee’s ON/OFF switch is turned ON and in good condition. You should also check whether the power cords are in good condition and, if not, consult a repair technician to fix it.

2. No water in the reservoir

Your coffee maker won’t brew because it does not have enough water in the reservoir. The machine will beep but not brew because the water reservoir is empty.

You can check the water level at the gauge before the coffee maker. If there is no or little water, add some more and try to brew your coffee again.

3. Defective thermostat

A faulty thermostat will prevent your coffee maker from brewing. It is firmly sealed with a metal clip and looks like a small white part. To test the condition of the thermostat, you can use a multimeter to test its terminals.

If you read no continuity on the terminals, the coffee maker’s thermostat is faulty and needs immediate replacement. Contact a professional repair technician to fix it.

4. Faulty control board

Your Mr. Coffee Iced coffee maker may be in service for a long time, exposing the control board to wear and tear. As a result, your control board gets damaged and fails to start the coffee machine.

Fixing a control board is a complex job and not recommended to do on your own. Instead, you should allow a professional technician to replace the control board.

5. Dirty coffee maker

If your coffee maker fails to start, it is clogged with dirt and minerals from your tap water. You, therefore, need to descale the machine to get rid of the mineral deposits. The manufacturers recommend that you descale your coffee maker after 40 to 80 brews.

Below are steps on how to descale your Mr. Coffee Iced coffee maker:

  • Pour 4 cups of white vinegar into the water reservoir.
  • Place the coffee filter in the brew basket and secure the lid shut.
  • Allow three cups of vinegar to flow through the basket and into the mug placed on the cup holder.
  • Turn off your coffee machine.
  • Wait for the machine to rest for 30 minutes before turning it on. Then, let the one cup of vinegar flow through the basket and into the mug.
  • Pour the vinegar and thoroughly rinse the mug. Remove the filter from the coffee maker’s brew basket.
  • Pour one cup of clean water into the reservoir and put a mug under the brew basket.
  • Turn on your coffee maker so the clean water can rinse the residual vinegar in the machine.

You can also clean your coffee machine off the coffee beans residue and mineral build-up. It is recommended that you clean its interior and exterior once a month using the following steps:

  • Make a vinegar solution by mixing one cup of distilled white vinegar and one cup of warm water.
  • Remove all the detachable parts of the coffee maker and separately wash them.
  • If you clean them using soap, ensure that you thoroughly rinse and dry them before reassembling them to the machine.
  • Pour the vinegar solution into the coffee’s water reservoir and run a regular brew cycle.
  • Once the brew cycle is complete, run a clean water cycle to rinse the solution.
  • Wipe the coffee maker’s exterior with a damp microfiber cloth before brewing a fresh cup of coffee.

6. Wrongly positioned filter

There is a chance that your Mr. Coffee maker is not working because its filter is wrongly positioned or unbalanced. To fix this, open the lid at the top of the coffee maker and adjust the filter’s position.

If you have tried the above and the coffee maker fails to start, the filter is faulty and needs immediate replacement. You can find a new filter at a home appliance or hardware store and get a repair technician to replace it.
